Medical Clinical Officers Professionals-Uganda (MCOP-U) is an association of health professionals (independent profession) that have a background training in Clinical Medicine and Community Health. It’s fully registered and legally recognized under the companies Act No.01 of 2012. The main aim of this association is to unite all Medical Clinical Officers (MCOs) of Uganda and further any activities that uphold professionalism among them. Under the Allied Health Professionals Council (Act Cap. 268) Section 54, (2, subsection 1) to the Uganda Allied Health Professional Association. Clinical officers are the equivalent of Physician associates recognized globally through a streamlined career path from diploma to PhD in Clinical medicine and community health, in Uganda we have both diploma and degree clinical officers. They serve both in government, Private not for profit and Private for profit in Uganda to achieve the global agenda of universal health coverage where the focus is on health promotion and prevention targeting both non-communicable and communicable disease through primary health care approaches and strategies. We call upon fellow clinical officers to subscribe to the association because there are a number of professional benefits including CPDs, Connections, welfare related issues among others.

Medical Clinical Officer(s) (11750 registered professionals) fall under an independent profession that has, and continue to play a critical role in Uganda’s health sector. According to the National Health Facilities Master list/directory (MOH, 2018), besides MCOs who are working in Regional & National Referral Hospitals. Over 2,645MCOs are working under the Local Government health facilities (HCIII to DHO level) and are running over 1,569 HCIIIs while over 511 MCOs are running Private Not For Profit (PNFP) & community based health facilities and serving mostly over 83% rural communities of the Country’s total population.Read More
